The Callaway story
Ely Callaway believed the game of golf should be enjoyable for everyone - young, old, man, woman, amateur or professional. So he built a company from this philosophy and a passion for the game.
By 1985, the Company expanded, and Richard C. Helmstetter became Callaway Golf's Chief of New Products, inventing the Big Bertha Driver and scores of other breakthrough products.
Callaway Golf soon revolutionised the industry, with friendly clubs that helped golfers of all abilities find more enjoyment and a few more great shots in their game. Innovations like S2H2 - Short, Straight, Hollow Hosel - and the evolution of ideas like the Big Bertha Driver turned the world's smallest golf club manufacturer into the most dominant force in the industry.
Celebrities like Bill Gates, Kenny G, Celine Dion and Alice Cooper became fans, and Callaway Golf became one of the biggest names on tour.
In 1993, Callaway Golf signed an amateur golfer named Annika Sorenstam as a staff professional. The original Big Bertha Driver was the first driver she ever used in competition. She’s now one of the game's most dominant players ever - male or female - with Callaway Golf technology in her bag.
By 2000, our golf balls were the #2 ball on tour and a serious competitor in the marketplace. Today, in 107 countries and 29 languages, Callaway Golf continues to build upon the late Ely Callaway's vision. As the #1 choice of consumers and the leader in the golf industry, Callaway Golf still builds a better product, tells the truth, and delivers great shots.
